Garden & Miniature Crafts
In these hands-on courses, participants will learn the secrets of designing and creating a miniature fairy garden or other gardening project.  The best part is picking out personal plants and accessories to create your own special container to take home.  Plants used are low-maintenance or  “naturalistic” (realistic artificial).  Supply fee payable day of class, amount varies per topic.  All classes are one day, held at Lake Miona Rec Center, and registration is at:

October 7th 2017, Saturday, 9am-Noon
Mini/Fairy Garden

For indoors or covered lanai, either shaded or morning sun.  Make a charming tropical beach scene, woodland scene, serenity garden, fairy garden, hobby garden (golf or wine anyone?) or your own creative vision. We’ll use ferns, foliage, and succulents, along with miniature accessories, the style being smaller, adorable versions of what you can realistically find in larger landscapes.  Plenty of samples, instruction, and guidance provided.
Supplies: Supply fee of $35 covers soil, drainage rock, mulch, plants, basic miniature/fairy accessories, and more.  Additional materials may be utilized for an additional fee.  Bring your own container to match your decor, or appropriate containers are available at class, most $12. The ideal container should be 12-14″ wide and 4-6″ deep, and can be a bowl or rectangular pot of any material, with or without a drainage hole.  Bring gardening gloves if you have them.

Mini/Fairy Garden Globe
Come join the fun of creating a tiny world inside a glass globe!  Choose to make a woodland scene with ferns and mosses, a beach scene with succulents or air plants, or a scene with naturalistic (realistic artificial) greenery and flowers.  Enjoy picking out enchanting miniature and fairy items to decorate your own special globe. A great beginner class.
Supplies: $22 supply fee covers all supplies, including globe, building materials, plants, and miniature accessories.

Don’t need the benefits of live plants?  This class is for you!  Learn the secrets of floral and landscape design to create a “naturalistic” miniature or fairy garden, using realistic looking artificial plants.  Make a charming beach/tropical scene using succulents or a woodland/fairy garden with ferns, foliage, and flowers.
Supplies: $40 supply fee covers foam, sand, moss, wire, glue, plants, basic miniature accessories and more.  Additional materials may be utilized for an additional fee.  Bring your own container to match your decor, or appropriate containers are available at class, most $12. The ideal container should be 10-12” wide and 4″ deep, and can be a bowl or rectangular pot of any material.

Herb Container (minis optional)

Come learn about growing delicious and healthy herbs, and create your own herb container garden to take home.  Participants will choose 5 different herbs for a mostly sunny location.  You may add miniature accessories if you wish to complete your garden.
Supplies:  Supply free of $28 covers 5 herbs, soil, and more.  Miniature accessories are $15 or more, depending upon how elaborate you’d like your garden to be.  Bring your own container 14-16” wide and 8-12” deep, with a drainage hole.  Bring gardening gloves if you have them.

Fabric Clay Pots & Houseplants

An interesting and fun new way to dress up containers.  Clay pots will be painted, sealed, and covered with colorful fabric to make a unique pot for indoor plants. (Can also be placed on a lanai and brought in during freezing weather.)  In this class at this time of year, we’ll focus on planting houseplants, which are beneficial for your health by cleaning the air and reducing indoor chemical and plastic fumes.  Pots have many other uses as well, such as holding sewing notions, tools, seeds, picnic silverware, etc.  Or they can be used as gift “baskets”.
Supplies:  $30 supply fee covers all supplies, including two pots/saucers, paint, glue, plants, and choice of fabrics.  You may bring your own fabric if you wish (½ yard).

Holiday Globe

Create a globe that’s perfect for the holidays.  Make a glittering woodland scene or beach scene (Floridian holiday!) using naturalistic (realistic artificial) greenery that can be enjoyed year after year.  Have fun picking out holiday miniature and fairy items, along with a beautiful bow, to decorate your globe. Globes can be hung or placed on a table, and also make great gifts, so you may make more than one if you wish for an additional fee. 
Supplies:  $22 supply fee covers all supplies, including globe, building materials, plants, and miniature accessories.

Succulent Holiday Centerpiece

Create a Floridian style holiday succulent centerpiece for the holidays using either real succulents or naturalistic (realistic artificial) versions.  Add creative touches such as holiday balls and finish off with a pillar candle.  Dish container can be gold, silver, red, or other festive color.
Supplies:  $45 supply fee covers painted containers, soil or foam, plants, candle, holiday décor, etc.

January 13th 2018, Saturday, 9am-Noon

Mini/Fairy Outdoor Garden

Create a miniature or fairy garden for your outdoor container or for subsequent planting in the ground. We’ll utilize perennial plants that will survive outdoors and are meant for our tropical environment. You may choose from a selection of sun plants or partial shade plants, including colorful foliage and flowers.
Supplies: Supply fee of $40 covers soil, mulch, glue, plants, and basic miniature/fairy accessories. Additional materials may be utilized for an additional fee. Bring your own container to match your outdoor décor (many can be found at big box stores for approximately $10). The ideal container should be 14-16″ wide and 12” deep, and must have a drainage hole. Bring gardening gloves if you have them.

March 3rd 2018, Saturday, 9am-Noon

Easter or Spring Globe
Create a spring or Easter themed globe using naturalistic (realistic artificial) greenery and spring flowers that can be enjoyed year after year. Use rabbits and colored Easter eggs or other spring miniature accessories that you have fun selecting. Joining family or friends for Easter? Globes also make great hostess or children gifts, and you may make more than one if you wish for an additional fee.
Supplies:  $22 supply fee covers all supplies, including globe, building materials, plants, and miniature accessories.
